Energy systems increasingly run on computation — forecasting demand, controlling grids, discovering materials, and defending infrastructure against attack. Three university-wide centers bring that capability into the building.
AI Education, Research and Infrastructure Center
Mizzou’s hub for interdisciplinary and responsible AI, linking faculty and students across every college. AERI connects AI research, advanced computing, data governance and education, with partnerships including World Wide Technology, Google, NVIDIA and Amazon Web Services. Its computing and engineering core will be based here.
Quantum Innovation Center
Established in 2024, one of only four academic IBM Quantum Innovation Centers in North America. Through the IBM Quantum Network, researchers and industry partners have access to operating quantum systems — including work on quantum algorithms for power flow and state estimation in electrical grids.
Cybersecurity Center
Part of the Cyber Education, Research and Infrastructure Center, bringing together faculty from engineering, business, law, medicine, mathematics and the social sciences. Research spans formal methods, cryptography, data security, secure multiparty computation, AI security and cloud security, with funding from NSF, the Army Research Laboratory, NSA and the Department of Energy. Its work contributed to Mizzou’s designation as an NSA Center for Academic Excellence.
